Meet Dewar: Celtic Folk Music from the Heart.

Meet Dewar; an authentic Celtic folk band based in the Netherlands, with deep Scottish roots. With Scottish singer and guitarist Steve Dewar and the soulful Gaelic vocals and fiddle of his wife Lena Dewar, we bring a captivating mix of traditional Celtic songs and Steve’s original music. Using classic Celtic instruments such as fiddle, bodhrán and guitar, our sound transports you straight into the enchanting world of the Celts, bringing a true taste of Scotland to your event.
Our name, Dewar, comes from the Scottish Gaelic Deoradh, meaning “pilgrim”, a fitting symbol for a musical journey shaped by heritage, stories and song. The name is also Steve’s family name and is connected to Clan Dewar, whose history reaches back to medieval Scotland, with roots in Perthshire near Edinburgh. Steve himself was born and raised in Edinburgh, strengthening our bond with Scotland’s culture and traditions.
Clan Dewar is remembered for its proud and heroic folklore. Among the best-known tales is the story of a fearsome wolf that once terrorised the district around Heriot, until a clan member is said to have slain it, protecting the community and earning lasting respect. For us, these stories are more than history: they reflect the spirit of Celtic folklore that inspires our music.
Dewar performs as a duo or trio, often joined by bodhrán players such as Dennis Delger, adding that unmistakable Celtic pulse. Our repertoire ranges from intimate Gaelic ballads to lively, energetic folk tunes and well-loved sing-alongs. Always delivered with warmth, passion and a love for connecting with our audience through stories of love, adventure, battles and the beauty of life.
Based in the Netherlands, Dewar is available for weddings, private parties, festivals, cultural events and gatherings across the Netherlands, Germany and the rest of Europe. If you’re looking to book a Scottish Celtic folk band, we’d love to play for you.
